Expat coaching for finding balance

Are you looking to start a new life abroad? Do you want to explore the world, expand your horizons and become an expat? Then I'm here to help! As an experienced life coach and fellow expat I understand the challenges and opportunities of relocating to a new country. I specialize in guiding individuals through their process of becoming an expat.

An international move provides you with the unique opportunity to grow both personally and professionally. Having the chance to find a home and career anywhere in the world is very exciting. In addition to new perspectives, learning and expanding your network, you also gain a lot of world experience.

I experienced myself that living in the Caribbean is both enriching as challenging. Not only to adapt to the differences in culture, but also to create a new home and to find a balance in work-life and in relationships.

What determines your success or non-success during your adventure, and whether you direct it yourself or let the changes determine it, that's up to you. The wonderful thing I know is that everyone has the power and ability to direct the challenges and change, in fact, that’s what you’re here to do.

I've been where your are and I can help you navigate those waters. A big change can be an even bigger adjustment, but with the right support, it can be an incredibly rewarding experience.

What is an expat exactly?

The word expat is short for the word expatriate (ex patria, which means out of your country in latin). An expat is a person who lives outside his/her native country, but keeps the nationality from the nation of origin. Most expats return after a few years if it concerns a temporary mission or an international assignment. Others settle in a new continent indefinitely, like me, to build a new life, set up a business (or 2) or retire.

Living abroad increases the self-concept clarity

Hermann von Keyserling wrote in his 1919 book 'The Travel Diary of a Philosopher' my favourite quote so far;

'The shortest path to oneself leads around the world.'

A recent study by Rice University, Columbia University and the University of North Carolina highlights the benefits of such a world traveler lifestyle. The study found that living abroad increases something the researchers call 'the self-concept clarity,' which in simple terms is our understanding and comfort with ourselves.

The survey found that a life abroad encourages us to reflect on the norms and values of both the homeland and the host country. This period of reflection helps people better understand and define the values that reflect who they truly are.
